Of lousy service and commercialised beach…

BOO!

that’s what i’ll say about the standard of service provided by the food vendors at our Tg Aru beach..

Scene 1:

We sat at a big table for 4 adults and 5 kids. A guy with a cap from stall No. 39 came to take our orders.  The fan above us was off so my very, VERY, pregnant sis asked him:

Sis:  Itu kipas tidak kena ‘on’, mau tunggu kami order dari kau baru kau pasang tu kipas ka?

Guy: Ya (emotion-less-ly)

Bro-in-law: Halo, you boleh pergi kasi pasang tu kipas ka, saya punya bini sarat mengandung nih, dia kepanasan. (It was rather warm as there was little wind passing thru the food court)

Guy: ~blur~

Sis: Ko pigi pasang dulu tu kipas baru kami order. (by this time, poor very VERY pregnant sis was sweating like a horse!)

Guy walks off (for about 10 mins) and came back with a ~blur~ face.

Guy: Rusak tu kipas.

DUH!!!

Scene 2 (when i said Boo above, it was meant for guy-with-cap.)

Ancient looking Ah-Ma came a-hobbling asking if we wanted to order from her stall No. 40.  She gestured to her ’stall’ and we saw an equally ancient looking Ah-Pa doing all the cooking..

Me: Auntie, kasi nasi goreng ikan-masin sama ayam satu.

Auntie: OK

The food came and it was good, albeit lack of salt, but that’s prob bec there’s oredy salted fish in the dish.. oh well.. i enjoyed the food..

NB: Go to Stall No. 40 if u want authentic Chinese-cooking.. and i’m not just talking about the dish XD

Back to Scene 1

Alan: Boy! tu Avocado Juice mau tunggu lagi pigi petik tu buah ka?

Guy: Oh sorry boss! (rushes off.  mebbe he takut alan bantai him bec alan does look like the Mafioso. . sorry dear =) hehehe )

Guy eventually came back with the Avocado Juice.

Bro in law: Mintak nasi goreng kg satu..

Guy goes off to the oposite direction of his stall..returns with a plate of white rice (??) and started to cook! Gosh! Dia la ambi order makan, dia la ambi order minum, dia juga yang masak the orders.. ini barulah sendirian berhad.

His food came, it was nice but his attitude sucks – so it cancels the kesedapan of the food.

Scene 3

at the fruit vendors

i overheard this conversation:

Customer: ini keropok apa ni?

Seller (dubious looking Bajau lady): keropok apa? tidak tau apa nama dia tu!

~shhhheeeeeeeeeesh man!!~

sighs.. it’ll probably be a long while til i return to this place.

    hello bev!

haha – i see you here!

odoi dogo…i juuust recommended some foreign visitors/friends to go and try hawker food at tj aru beach!! ;) hehe…

sudah lah no garam, no fan, the food is also clueless! ;)

but yes, no. 40 sedap tu…

also, if ordering juice drinks, i tend to favour no. 4; all because no. what-already-ah-forgot was bullying no. 4. supposedly, if you sat at a particular stall’s table, you must also buy only his/her food. so, we supported the underdog, of course, bought no. 4 drinks an sat at no. dunno-what-already’s table! haha… oh well, this was all before the mpkk enforced “free seating-free ordering”.

but really…speaking of the food there…hmmm… i dunno what to order anymore lah! aiso kosuang ginavo bo…

satay and avocado juice saja lah! :)

and, oh yes, “buli pasang kipas?” hehe!

hehehehe.. it’s sad how the fabled ‘tg aru food stalls’ is in its present state, kan? everything is too commercialised. i miss the days past where coconut stalls lined the very sempit one-way road but still there was more authentic Chinese & Malay stalls to buy food from..

Oy, even the satay they pre-cook 1st. unless u stand in front of their stalls then they’ll prob put fresh meat unto the bbq pit and actually cook it 4 u.. otherwise, i noticed that some stalls hide the pre-cooked satays and then just reheat them up before serving. i know, i saw them cooked meat “hidden” in the see-thru cabinets of theirs. i ordered beef satay and when they came, it was warm to the touch but when u press on it, it’s cold underneath.. so i made them ‘cook’ it again but by the time it’s been cooked twice and served to us, the beef is too tough to chew. ~sighs~

and like i said about the dubious Bajau lady, everyone at the food stall except for Ah Ma & Ah Pa seemed to be holders of dubious MyKads as well. I won’t be surprised it this is true =(

so, thanks for dropping by ~hugs~ did u buy the tickets for the Gala nite? i bought one for myself and anthr for my 11-y/o. i hope to see u there! =) ~hugs~again.. take care Trix =)

uiii my dear, have not bought tix yet! mati lah ni kana rotan yr “fwen” ;)

aiyaaa…about tj. aru – iyalah…nice when it was still kampung-kaaampung… and those darkish-looking fried noodles type stalls can be quite appealing late into the nite…

beats me, where do u get really good satay nowadays?? didn’t they have a so-called “Satay Kajang” place in Damai area? is it still there?? i think, it will all be up to us one of these days to just say, the heck with it, and DIY your own sate grill…when that happens, don’t forget to pass me the marinade recipe :)
